Belmont——Valery P. Pierce, 86, of 105 Hurricane Road, died at her home on Sunday, September 14, 2014. Mrs. Pierce was born August 19, 1928 in Ashland, N.H., the daughter of the late Basil N. and Maude (Patten) Baker. She resided in Ashland and Laconia for many years before moving to Belmont fifty-seven years ago. Mrs. Pierce attended the First United Methodist Church of Gilford. She enjoyed travelling, square dancing and playing bingo. Survivors include her husband of thirty years, Walter Pierce, of Belmont; two sons, Gary A. Cartier of Belmont and Dean Cartier of Damariscotta, Maine and one daughter, Cathie A. Thurston, of Florida; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Thurston Sparacino, Melissa Thurston, Cohen Cartier, Jennifer Cartier Boggia, Cory Cartier Moran, Brie Cartier, Ashley Cartier and Lacey Cartier Creamer; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pierce was predeceased by her first husband, Francis W. Cartier; two brothers, Harold and Richard Baker and two sisters, Dorothy Brunt and Shirley Harriman. A memorial calling hour will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 1:00-2:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. A Memorial Service will follow the calling hour at 2:00PM also at the Funeral Home.
