Belmont—-Theresa Marie Poisson Brake, 80, of Belmont, New Hampshire went home to our Lord and Savior on September 7, 2012 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a brief illness. Daughter of Phillip Poisson and Rose Beaupre, she was born in Franklin, New Hampshire October 17, 1931. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, Ernest Brake, Sr., and her brother, Norman Poisson.
Previously employed by Totsy Doll Clothing Company, National Power, and Beede Electronics, Theresa happily retired in 1986. During her retirement Theresa was quite active, enjoying many family gatherings, outings and cribbage tournaments with friends, playing and calling bingo at the Belmont Senior Center and Heritage Terrace Apartments, watching the Red Sox, and listening to her favorite musical artist, Elvis Presley.
She leaves her sister, Rita Belden of Venice, Florida, her brother, Robert Poisson of Center Harbor, and her children. Her daughters and their spouses, Sandra Champagne & Paul Collette, Sherry and Dan O’Connell, Debra & Jon Gile, all of Belmont, and Barbara Locke of Franklin, along with her sons and their spouses, Wayne & Judith Brake of Salem, Ray & Lisa Brake of Belmont, Ernest & Sondra Brake of North Sutton, and Richard & Debra Desmarias of Canterbury, who will hold dear their mother’s legacy of cherishing family and finding humor amongst life’s challenges. Theresa also leaves fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many good friends and neighbors.
The family would enjoy your presence at her services which will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Parish, 96 Main Street, Belmont, New Hampshire.
Burial will be in the family lot at St. John Cemetery, Tilton, N.H.

Belmont—-Malvina “Mal” Alice Cherrette, 95, of 52 Concord Street, died at her home on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Malvina was born July 22, 1917 in Clinton, Mass., the daughter of Ledger J. and Celina (Monreau) Parent. She had been a longtime resident of Belmont and was homemaker and domestic engineer for the Parent Brothers for many years. She had also worked at Belmont Hosiery, Laconia Shoe and New Hampshire Ball Bearings. Malvina was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish, Belmont and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member and held several offices in the Tilton and Belmont Granges. Malvina enjoyed baking and fundraising for the Church, as well as cooking and caring for her family. Malvina was the matriarch of the family. She is survived by a grandson, Robert Lord, of Belmont; two great granddaughters, Victoria T. Lord of Lowell, Mass. and Amanda Cribley-Lord of Belmont, N.H.; two nephews, John Monroe of Center Barnstead and Vaughn “Buster” Monroe of Gilford; two nieces, Roberta Hackett of Arizona and Vivian Higgins of Florida and several grandnephews, grandnieces and cousins. In addition to her parents and her son, Norman Lord, and his wife, Linda Matthews Lord, Malvina was predeceased by four brothers, Ledger “Pal” V. Parent, Oliver “Nate” R. Parent, Henry “Pete” E. Parent and Harry J. Parent and by a sister, Blanche Monroe. Malvina raised Blanche’s children, as though they were her own, after her sister’s passing. Belmont—–Cathleen “Cathy” A. F. Marcotte, 58, of 114 Gilmanton Road, died at the Dartmouth- Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Cathy was born June 14, 1954 in Laconia, N.H. the daughter of Rita (Lessard) and Richard A. Fortin, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region and had been employed at Odyssey House in Canterbury for a number of years and formerly was employed at K-Mart for several years. Cathy enjoyed arts and crafts and loved her home and pool. Survivors include her husband , Richard A. Marcotte, of Belmont; her mother, Rita Fortin, of Gilford; two sons, Christopher St. Gelais, of Florida and Corey St. Gelais of California; a daughter, Jessica St. Gelais, of Laconia; a stepson, Craig Marcotte, of Boscawen and a step daughter, Tammy Lynn Kiniry of Newington, Conn.; several grandchildren and step grandchildren; a brother, Richard A. Fortin, Jr. and his wife, Darlene, of Tilton; a sister, Deborah Luff, and her husband, Paul, of Laconia; two nephews, Dustin Fortin and Nathan Luff and one niece; Sarah Fortin Allen. She was predeceased by her father, Richard A. Fortin, Sr. and by a niece, Tara Luff Tardy. BELMONT – Cecil Jordan, 85, of 12 Cherry Street, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of Milton and Minnie (Miesner) Jordan. He worked in coal mines in Canada before joining the Canadian Army and Air Force. Cecil worked as a truck driver and most recently as a machinist for such companies as Scott & Williams and Lewis & Saunders, retiring in the 1990’s. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gilford where he sang in the choir for 40 years. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loved the Boston Bruins. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Trudy (Fowler) Jordan of Belmont, two daughters; Wendy Lindsey of Belmont and Joanne Benoit and her husband Mark of Meredith, two grandchildren; Heidi Kimball of Gilmanton and Sean Kimball of Manchester and one great granddaughter, Emily Roberts of Gilmanton. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son in law, James Lindsey in 2006. Calling hours will be held from 5PM to 6PM on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 18 Wesley Way (Rt 11A),Gilford. Belmont—–Rosella M. Betourne, 73, of 87 Depot Street died at her home on Sunday, November 25, 2012 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Betourne was born September 2, 1939 in Houlton, Maine, the daughter of the late George E. and Marion E. (Ryder) Burpee. She lived in Billerica, Mass. before moving to Belmont, N.H. forty years ago. She was employed as a cosmetologist for twenty-five years. Her family and her grandchildren were her world. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Arthur D. Betourne, of Belmont, N.H.; two sons, George W. Ladnay of Belmont and Chris V. Ladnay of Belmont; two daughters, Beth A. Fry and her husband Jake McDermott of Belmont and Kari L. Smith of Belmont; five grandchildren; Mandi and her husband Evan, Chelsea, Dustin and his wife Noelle, Chris and his wife Julie and Georgie, and 12 great grandchildren; MacKayla, Jaylynne, Chris Jr, Sieara, Austin, Bretten, Brooke, Sophia, Abby, Aadin, Mason and Ricky, a brother, Vance E. Burpee, of Belmont and a sister, Joan M. Mickey of Hereford, N.C., her mother in law, Barbara E. Smith of Belmont, nieces and nephews. Belmont—Gary Bloom, 69, of Belmont, N.H., died Nov. 29, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born July 11, 1943 in Salamanca, N.Y., the youngest of four children to Wanda (Pavlock) and John Bloom. He married Martha “Marty” (Morton) Bloom on April 23, 1966, and they enjoyed 46 fun years of marriage. Gary was most at home on his boat on Lake Winnisquam, on the golf course with his friends, or in Florida at his and Marty’s home in The Villages. Gary and Marty’s adventurous spirit brought them around the world and home again, making friends and forging new connections wherever they went. Gary worked for J.J. Newberry’s for 36 years, working his way up from a stockroom boy to District Manager. After Newberry’s closed, Gary and Marty opened Bloom’s Variety on Laconia’s Main Street in 1997 in the old Newberry’s storefront, which they operated until their retirement in 2008. Gary loved the fast pace of retail and had a talent for connecting with his many loyal customers and community members. A long-time proponent of small businesses and the importance of Main Street in a local economy, Gary remained supportive of the Main Street effort. Gary is predeceased by his mother and father and his sister Janice Skudlarek of Randolph, N.Y. He is survived by his wife Martha; his children Trevor Bloom and wife Lisa, of Reading, Mass.; his daughter Meredith Morin and husband Mike of Stratton, Vt.; and his five grandchildren: Jack Bloom, Natalie Bloom, Brian Bloom, of Reading, Mass. and Eva Morin and Luke Morin of Stratton, N.H., his brother Mark Bloom, of Raleigh, N.C., and sister Lorraine Harf, of Depew, N.Y., as well as many other family and friends. Belmont———Donald F. “Laughing Owl” Newell, 86, of 9 Durrell Mt. Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Mr. Newell was born July 10, 1926 in Dixfield, Maine, the son of Celand T. and Arlene (Boivin) Newell. He had lived in the Lakes Region since 1964 and had been employed at J.J. Nissen for thirty-nine years. Mr. Newell served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, sailing to England seven times, France, Belgium, Egypt, Suez Canal to Iran, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Cancun, Venezuela and Japan. He was a member of the American Legion, Wilkins-Smith Post No. 1 of Laconia and was a member (#02284) of the Penobscot Indian Nation, Old Town, Maine. Mr. Newell was a founding member and Elder of the NH Intertribal Native American Council and was a 50+ year member and Ordained Elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include two sons, Peter Newell of Belmont and Michael Newell and his wife, Chris, of Belmont; a daughter, Susan Newell Montmagny, of Lebanon; ten grandchildren, Julie Newell Guarente and her husband, Dan, Jolene Newell Price and her husband, David, Meredith Newell, Wesley Newell and his wife, Hope, Elizabeth Montmagny, Ben Montmagny, Josh Gentes, Kate Gentes, Jay Harris and his wife, Erin, and Jake Long; four great grandchildren, Nicholas Guarente, Kyle Price, Jordanna Price and Emily Louise Newell; a brother, Homer Newell, of Rumford, Maine and a sister, Ruth Holman, of Dixfield, Maine. Carole was born December 12, 1943 in Concord the daughter of Leo S. and Yvonne (Belair) Gonyea. Carole was a hairdresser and worked at The Clip Joint for many years. She loved animals, music and singing in the choir. Survivors include a brother, Leo Gonyea, and his wife, Carolyn of Highgate Center, VT. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister Pauline Rix. There will be no calling hours or services. Belmont—–On December 24, 2012, Ruth P. Wilder Towle took her son’s hand and passed into the arms of the Lord. Ruth passed peacefully at home with her daughters by her side. Ruth was born April 8, 1929 in Canterbury, N.H., the daughter of the late Oscar J. and Nellie P. (Pickard) Rollins. She was a longtime resident of Canterbury before moving to Belmont ten years ago. Ruth had been a registered nurse from 1952-1998 and had been employed at many area nursing homes, the Laconia State School, the State Hospital and the Waltham Hospital. She enjoyed traveling to Italy, South America and Mexico and enjoyed Dunkin Donuts’ ice coffee. Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting, animals and birds, genealogy, crossword puzzles and playing yahtzee and scrabble. She was kind to and understanding of the elderly, the young, the disturbed, the under privileged, the dying, the needy and whoever else needed a helping hand. Ruth had been a mother since 1954, a grandmother since 1976 and a great grandmother since 1993. She is survived by two daughters, JoAnne L. Copp and her husband, Kenneth Bowick, of Canterbury and Janice E. Brinkley also of Canterbury; six grandchildren, Katie, Brittany, Justin, Haley, Adrienne and John; four great grandchildren with two more “on the way”; six nephews; eight nieces and her favorite companion,” Rose Bud”, her kitty. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by a son, Lawrence “Tom” Wilder, in March, 2011, by her brother, Irving Rollins; by her sisters, Evelyn Blake, Louise Parker and Elsie Clairmont and by two nephews. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Spring burial will be in the family lot in Maple Grove Cemetery, Canterbury, N.H. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and motorcycles. He was a lifelong member of the Sunset Mountain Fish and Game Club of Canterbury, N.H. and the N.R.A. Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, June E. Belmont—–Teresa May Phillips, 96, of 292 Durrell Mt. Road, died at Belknap County Nursing Home, Laconia on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Mrs. Phillips was born June 4, 1916 in Canterbury, N.H., the daughter of Ernest & Laura (Fletcher) Lawrence. She resided in the Lakes Region area for many years before moving to Belmont in 1960. She had been employed at Globe Manufacturing in Pittsfield, N.H. for over 15years. She loved camping, fishing, hunting, playing bingo and was an avid cribbage player. She enjoyed knitting and crochet and was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Mrs. Phillips was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Laconia. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Laconia Post #1670 and was also a lifetime member of the Laconia Rod and Gun Club. Survivors include two sons, Benjamin Elliott of Loudon and Lamont Clark of Belmont; one daughter, Norrine Derusha of Loudon; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Decato of Canterbury and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph Elliott two daughters;. Clematis Pickard and Ella Bailey, four brothers, Lauren Lawrence, Ernest Lawrence, Lloyd Lawrence and Victor Lawrence; two sisters; Barbara Leonard and Ina Burbank. Belmont—–Dorothy May (Waterman) Mudgett, 78, of Perkins Road, died in her home on Monday, February 18, 2013 with her dogs, Snookie and Buddy, by her side. Mrs. Mudgett was born March 29, 1934 in Sanbornton, N.H., the daughter of Harry and Bernice (Jones) Waterman. Mrs. Mudgett was a lifelong resident of the Sanbornton/Belmont area and had been employed as a seamstress for Annalee Dolls for many years. Survivors include her husband of 27 years, David Mudgett, of Belmont; a son, Douglas Braley, and his wife, Melody, of Franklin, two daughters, Barbara Huckins of Tilton, and Buster Huckins, of Florida and Gale Pucci and her husband, Anthony, of Northfield, six grandchildren, Todd Huckins and his wife, Nicole, Douglas Braley and his wife, Heather, Rosemary Wiedner and her husband, Adam, Michael Pucci and his wife, Melissa, Cami McGranaghan and her husband, Thomas, and Wayne Clark and his wife, Melanie; ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Waterman and his wife, Jeanne, of Maine, Frank Dalton and his wife, Linda, of Sanbornton and Byron Dalton and his wife, Cynthia of Gilmanton, a sister, June Bolduc, and her husband, Francis, of Laconia and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mudgett was predeceased by her first husband, Douglas Braley, and by her brother, WilliamWaterman. A special thanks to Central NH VNA & Hospice for making it possible for Dorothy to pass away at home with her dogs. Belmont—–Ronald Ouellette, 66, of 207 Bean Hill Road, died at the Dartmouth- Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Mr. Ouellette was born October 30, 1946 in Sanford, Maine, the son of Joseph F. & Alice (Gagne) Ouellette. Mr. Ouellette was a longtime resident of the Lakes Region and had resided in Belmont for the past twelve years. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1965, attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and graduated from Belknap College with a Business Degree. He was co-owner of Lakes Region Toyota-Saab, a realtor and general manager at Calley & Currier Crutch Factory in Bristol. He had been a building contractor for over twenty-five years and for the last ten years was owner of Sher-Ron Builders. Ron enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent countless hours in the woods of New Hampshire with his son in pursuit of whitetail deer. Some of his other interests included skiing, fishing, gardening, and leading a health-conscious life. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Sheryl (Read) Ouellette, of Belmont, N.H.; a son, Geoffrey T. Ouellette, of Gilmanton, N.H.; his mother, Alice Gagne Ouellette Visocchi, of Bedford, N.H.; two sisters, Celeste M Nelson and Carmen O Kupetz, both of Manchester, N.H. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph F. Ouellette, in August 1965 and by his stepfather, Bennie Visocchi. Belmont—–Donald E. Hewett, 70, of Durrell Mtn Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Monday, March 25, 2013. Mr. Hewett was born August 26, 1942 in Spofford, N.H., the son of the late Sadie (Wharf) and Kenneth Hewett, Sr. Mr. Hewett resided in Bristol, N.H. before moving to Belmont eight years ago. He was a logger for most of his life, and was employed at Freudenberg for 9 years. He enjoyed walks in the woods with his grandkids, gardening, fishing and animals. Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Hewett, of Belmont; five daughters, Kym , Heidi, Jenny, Monica and Kelly ; six grandchildren, Jasmin, Devon, Izabel, Genevie, Avery and Olivia; two brothers, Kenneth Jr. and Robert and a sister, Dorothy. Belmont—–On April 10th, 2013, Viola Louise (Smith) Corriveau, 91, joined her beloved husband Bob in God’s Kingdom, while surrounded by her loving family, “the best family in the whole wide world.” She resided at 9 Fred Friend Road. Mrs. Corriveau was born July 11, 1921 in Laconia, N.H., the daughter of the late Florida Mary (Desrochers) and Grover Cleveland Colby Smith. She was a long time resident of Laconia before moving to Belmont in 1950. Over the years, she had been employed at Laconia Needle for six years, Cormier Hosiery for seventeen years and at Laconia Manufacturing for seventeen years. From 1998-2006 she was employed at Wal-Mart in Tilton, where her warm smile greeted hundreds. Mrs. Corriveau was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and was a member of the Church’s Ladies Guild and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Married Farmers of America. Her hobbies included, sewing, swimming, boating, horseback riding, golfing, bowling and working the family farm, “Halfway House Poultry Farm”, selling eggs and chickens. She and her family owned Kim-San Kennels, raising and breeding sled dogs for the family to race. She loved spending time with her family especially at their yearly “campout” where she starred on stage as “Ma” with “Ma and the Elders”. She also loved Sunday rides. Survivors include two sons, Robert Corriveau, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, and Bradley Corriveau and his wife, Helen, all of Belmont; a son-in-law, Raymond Marceau of Laconia; three daughters, Suzanne Woodworth of Belmont, Bonita Bunker of Herkimer, N.Y. and Beverly Perron and her husband, Arthur, of Gilford; twenty-three grandchildren, Wendy Marceau, Sherry St. Jacques, Steven Marceau, Kathy Baker, John Marceau, Jason Marceau, Darren Marceau, Dana Marceau, Belinda LaDuke, Michelle Dark, Rebecca Woodworth, Steven Woodworth, Rachel Presby, Robert Corriveau III, Sarah Smith, Hollis Bunker, Jr., Ellen Lopez, Carrie Sagatis, John Bunker, Brett Perron, Amy Perron, Joslyn Corriveau and Benjamin Corriveau; fifty-two great grandchildren; six great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Robert R. Corriveau, Sr. in 1998, by her daughter, Patricia Marceau, a son-in-law, Hollis Bunker, her two brothers, Richard and Robert Smith and her two sisters, Dorothy Rogers and Marion Gardner. BELMONT – Leo “Popeye” Gilbert, 78, of 95 Jamestown Road, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at home on his son’s farm. He was born in Laconia, the son of Eugene and Mary (Maheux) Gilbert. Leo left home at a very early age to live with his Aunty and worked on her farm, the Ladd Hill Dairy. He also worked for many years at Malibu Iron and at Watts Regulator Company for 23 years, refusing to retire. He is survived by his three sons; John Gilbert, Jeff Gilbert and Jody Gilbert, two brothers; Laurent “Bo” Gilbert of Belmont and Roger Gilbert of Sanbornton, three sisters; Margueritea Walker of Laconia, Grace Abbott of Nashville, TN and Alice Brown of Gilford, his grandchildren; Ashley Alberts, Brady Gilbert, Donald Pickowicz, Elizabeth Brothers, Jake Pickowicz and his “Teddy Bear”, Maria Pickowicz , his great-grandchildren; Cameron Gilbert, Ava Gilbert, Lydia Pickowicz, Landen Brothers, Stella Pickowicz, Avery Pickowicz and many nieces and nephews. Belmont—–David E. Chamberlain, 76, of 341 Ladd Hill Road, died on Sunday April 28, 2013 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a long illness. He leaves behind his loving family including his wife of 55 years, Beverly A. Hart; two daughters, Denise Lynn Betourne, and her husband, Norman A. of Gilmanton, Deborah C. Lee, and her husband, Theodore, of Bedford; two grandchildren, Ashley Smith and Lee Smith; 3 step grandchildren, Elisabeth Lee, Allison Lee, and Prescott Lee; a brother, Raymond Chamberlain, and his wife, June, of Gilford; a sister, Frances Cormier, and her husband, Ronald, of Gilford and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by a brother Alfred J. Chamberlain, Jr. and by two sisters, Theresa Pelkie and Elaine Harbour. David was born November 23, 1936 in Franklin the son of Alfred J. and Ida R. (Bergeron) Chamberlain, Sr. He had been a resident of Belmont for the past fifty years. David was head of maintenance for the Belknap County Nursing Home for many years and also for the Holy Trinity Catholic School. He was a life long member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks No. 876. David was an avid wood-worker and enjoyed many hours working on family projects at his home. He also enjoyed spending time fishing on his boat with his wife and dog that he loved dearly. He loved to ride his motorcycle with his wife and their best friends. David served in the New Hampshire National Guard from 1956 to 1963. There will be no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday May 4, 2013 at 12:30PM in the Union Cemetery, Academy Street, Laconia, NH. Ginger was born April 28, 1925 in Beverly, Mass., the daughter of the late James and Ada Houston. She resided in Danvers, Mass. for several years before moving to Belmont, N.H. twelve years ago. Following her graduation from high school, Ginger worked as a machinist during WWII. After marriage and raising a family, at age 40 she earned a degree as a medical technician and worked many years for the State of Massachusetts Division of Health and Human Services. During retirement, she enjoyed traveling and volunteering at local hospitals. She loved her family, friends and writing poetry. She also liked to garden and play scrabble. Survivors include son, Daniel Foote, and his wife, Jean, a daughter, Cynthia Foote,; two grandchildren, Corey Foote and his wife, Melissa, and Alex Foote; one great grandchild, Willem Foote, ; a brother, Charlie Houston, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Burak .
